It took a couple different visits for Jennifer to practice being a better sport and for Chrissy to learn how to be around her competitive nature. However, WE did make sure there was ample noncensored adult time too.
Another incident involving Jennifer and Chrissy happened while we were eating dinner. As Christopher came to sit down at the table, he accidentally stepped on our dog Dixieâs tail. Dixie yelped and cried out in pain, startling Chrissy, who then began to cry herself. In the next instant, Jennifer picked up a green bean from her plate and tossed it at Chrissy. It smacked her right in the face. Jenniferâs purpose was to get her to stop crying and it worked. Chrissy was so stunned that she sat frozen with her jaw hanging open. Internally I was encouraging Chrissy to realize that Jennifer was just playing with her, that the flinging of the bean was all in fun. I could hear Chrissy trying to laugh, but it sounded false. It wasnât long, though, before Chrissy was genuinely laughing with all of us.
It is probably quite obvious by now that my sister is not comfortable with children. Jennifer feels helpless when she is around a child who is crying or having a tantrum. She would rather be anywhere than in the same room as a âjunior mint.â Jennifer and Rim are quite similar in that way, although they have both managed to grow quite fond of our two kids and Iâm grateful for that.
Jennifer:
Of all the things to deal with, kids are not on my list of favorites. As a matter of fact, I think Iâd rather have a Pap smear than spend an afternoon with kids. Of all the alters, I resented Chrissy the most. I would get to spend so little time with my sister and I didnât want to share my vacation time with a child. For the most part though, Chrissyâs turned out pretty cool. Itâs soothing to spend time together coloring or dying Easter eggsâartsy stuff I wouldnât normally be doing at home.
